Brainiacs Social Project Olympiad Mechanics The Brainiacs Social Project Olympiad brings together students from Grades 5 to 12 to present creative ideas, research, innovative solutions and practical projects that can improve society, education, business, health, culture and human life. The category encourages students to identify real-world problems, study their causes, and develop practical, innovative and sustainable solutions. Each project may be prepared and submitted by up to three students.

PRELIMINARY ROUND
Project submission deadline: September 26, 2026. Finalists announced: September 28, 2026.
What to submit. A research paper in PDF with data, graphics, photos and drawings of the design concept, scenario, business plan or investment proposal, with all financing converted into US dollars — 20 pages including the executive summary is the recommended maximum. A presentation of up to 10 slides, also in PDF. A QUAD paper is optional but highly recommended. Photos, videos, brochures and posters may be added. All materials must be in English, and projects without results are not accepted.
Judging. Innovation and Creativity 20, Research Quality and Content 20, Analysis and Problem Solving 20, Practical Impact and Sustainability 20, Documentation and Organization 20. Total 100 points. Participants scoring 40 points or higher qualify for the Global Round, and all participants receive a Certificate of Participation.
GLOBAL ROUND
Registration deadline: October 10, 2026. The Global Round runs over two days: the first defends the project, the second sets a practical challenge.
Day 1 — Project Presentation. Each team presents its project to the judges for 15 minutes, and all team members should take part. Judges evaluate against the Preliminary Round criteria.
Day 2 — Practical Challenge. Teams receive a new problem related to their project topic and use what they learned building it to solve something they have not seen before. The work may involve improving the project, making a new prototype or model, creating a new idea or business plan, or developing a new solution. Scoring: Understanding the Challenge 20, Strategy and Planning 15, Solution Development 15, Creativity and Innovation 15, Functionality and Result 20, Adaptation to Problems 10, Final Explanation 5. Total 100 points.
WHAT TO BRING
Printed copies of the detailed project report, written in English, at most 20 pages excluding references, in Calibri or Arial at 11 or 12 point with margins of one inch or more. Posters of no less than 90 × 120 cm covering at least introduction, goal, results and conclusion. Prototypes and models are highly recommended. Participants may revise or improve their projects between the Preliminary and Global Rounds.
The presentation hall provides 220 V outlets — Malaysia uses Type G sockets — and a screen for presentations. Microbial cultures and fungi, live or preserved animals, open flames, hazardous chemicals, combustible materials, sharp objects, controlled substances and radioactive materials may not be displayed. Supervisors are not allowed in the judging area during judging.
